Walk a Mile in My Boots

Friday August 10th
7am for 7.30am start – 8.30am

Unley Concert Band will be supporting the Hutt St Centre’s Walk a Mile in My Boots event on Friday morning by leading out the walk from Victoria Park to the South Parklands.

Walk a Mile in My Boots provides South Australians the opportunity to step out to show their support for people experiencing homelessness. Join us with friends, families, and colleagues to walk a mile in the boots of a person facing homelessness in South Australia; by walking one mile on a cold, winter’s morning.

Hutt St Centre’s annual fundraising event, Walk a Mile in My Boots, provides South Australian’s the opportunity to show their support for people experiencing homelessness. Hutt St Centre has been supporting people experiencing homelessness for over 60 years, and without the help of the public, could not provide the life changing, essential and professional services to help rebuild lives.

Visit their website to see how you can be part of this event. We would love to see some friendly faces also braving the wet and cold.

Here are some details of the event:

Start: Victoria Park /Pakapakanthi (Wakefield Road entrance)

Finish: South Park Lands/ Tuthangga, Hutt Road

The walk will take approx 30 minutes and will be followed by a ‘traditional’ Hutt St Centre BBQ Breakfast at the finish line and a cup of tea/coffee/milo.

Parking is available on Beaumont Road and East Terrace in the city. Fullarton Road, next to Victoria Park also has parking available – but if you can get dropped off, that’s even better!

Adelaide Metro provide a free city bus service which may help you get back to your workplace or car. For timetable and route details please visit Adelaide Metro’s website.

Public toilets are located at Victoria Park (near the start line), and limited amenities will be available on site at the Finish Line. There are also public toilets located at the south end (a five minute walk from the finish line, corner of Greenhill and Glen Osmond Rd).

If the forecast is for rain, please come prepared with warm clothing, umbrella and suitable closed-toe shoes. If you want to challenge yourself, and better appreciate what a morning could be like for a person experiencing homelessness, consider removing a jacket or scarf and feel the chill while walking your mile.
