It’s been a busy month for the Double Blues.
We successfully defended our South Australian Open A Grade Concert Band title for the 12th year running with some excellent scores.
- Hymn “Greensleeves” 90/100
- Test “Primal” – Jared McCunnie 180/200
- Own Choice “An American in Paris” – George Gershwin 191/200
- March “Washington Grays” 91/100
Well done to all members who performed on the weekend and thanks to Colin Prichard, our hard working MD for his work preparing the band.
Some of our members competed admirably on September 12th in the South Australian Band Association’s Solo and Party championships. In particular, congratulations go to Rachel Banham who placed first in Open Ballad, and Nicole Molloy who placed first in Open Free Wind Ensemble (with Nele Leenders – TTG Redbacks).
Then on Sunday 20 October, the band performed a twilight concert at Concordia College Chapel with our deputy music director Andrew Ey at the helm. The concert featured a spectacular performance of the Glazunov Saxophone Concerto by Max Pook Kathriner, our inaugural Dom Meehan Memorial Award recipient.
The award, in honour of the late Dominic Meehan’s commitment to teaching and mentoring child and young adult musicians, is to be presented each year to one young member of the band who shows commitment to playing excellence in order to aid in their development. Congratulations to Max on the award for 2025 and for a wonderful performance of the concerto.

Next up is our cabaret which will be an exploration of all things good bad and ugly!
Don’t miss it – Saturday November 7th at the Latvian Hall, Wayville!
