
Position Description – Deputy Music Director: Unley Concert Band
The Deputy Music Director will:
- assist the Musical Director of the Band in all aspects of their role.
- ideally be or become a regular playing member of the band or be prepared to attend the
majority or the band’s rehearsals (a copy of all current scores will be provided to the Deputy
Music Director) - accept mentorship by the musical director and be willing to follow the Unley Concert Band’s
musical direction and goals.
The Deputy Music Director’s tasks include: - deputising for the Music Director as required.
- rehearsing and directing the Band as required.
- running sectionals in the lead up to performances
- assisting with the selection of the Band’s repertoire and source and recommend new music
for the Band. - being supportive of the Band’s marching performances with participation encouraged where
possible. - assisting with the development and management of the Band’s annual schedule of rehearsals,
concerts, festivals, concerts and other performances. - assistance with advising the Committee on musical suitability of prospective members of the
Band. - being directed by, and liaising with, the President and Secretary to interpret and carry out the
Band Committee’s policies and decisions, where this is necessary.
Selection process
The selection of the successful candidate will be via emailed application. Short listed applicants
will be interviewed and then asked to audition with the band. Remuneration will be on a per
rehearsal or performance basis (to be negotiated). - Applications should be via email (ucbpres@gmail.com) and include a brief CV.
